It is with heavy hearts that we announce Vera LaVerne Dunson, lovingly known to all simply as Nana, went home to be with the Lord on December 4, 2025 in Scottsboro, Al at the age of 93.
Nana was the rock of our family—the pillar who built us, held us together, and guided us with unwavering strength and faith. Her calling in life was pure and God-given: to raise children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She walked in her faith daily and showed us God’s love in the way she lived, gave, and laughed. And oh, her laugh—there was nothing like it. It filled rooms, lifted spirits, and left a warmth that will echo in our hearts forever.
Nana never met a stranger. Children adored her instantly, and she loved them right back. She touched countless lives simply by being who she was—the strongest, most God-loving woman we have ever known.
Although we mourn her deeply here on earth, we rejoice in knowing she is healed, whole, and pain-free in the presence of her Savior.
Nana is preceded in death by her loving husband, Papa Cecil Dunson; her parents, JT and Gracy Anders; and all five of her siblings. What a reunion Heaven must be celebrating.
She leaves behind the richest gifts of all: her legacy, her love, and her memories. She is survived by her two daughters, Vickie Wells (Gary) and Dianne Bunting (Daniel); six grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and countless others whose lives were forever changed by her presence.
We will miss her every day, but we find comfort in knowing we will see her again. Until then, we carry her love with us—always.
Visitation will be from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Paul Harvey officiating. Burial will be in Valhalla Memory Garden.
