FLORENCE-The Thousand Eyes Program helps to monitor archaeological sites for theft and environmental damage throughout the Tennessee River Valley. The Tennessee Valley Authority and Florence Arts and Museums are seeking volunteers for the Shoals Chapter of the Thousand Eyes Program. The program will host training for volunteers on September 20th and 21st, 2025. Training will consist of a classroom component on Saturday, followed by a demonstration at an archaeological site on Sunday. Volunteers will assist archaeologists by helping to monitor archaeological sites in the Shoals for looting and environmental damage.

If selected, volunteers will complete the training and be assigned a site to monitor. Site visits often requiring hiking, boating, or kayaking. Help stop the looting; help protect our past for our future.
The goal of the Thousand Eyes program is to promote stewardship and public appreciation of an area’s cultural
resources through partnerships and community engagement to facilitate:
• Protection & preservation of TVA’s archaeological resources
• Education of national, state, and local preservation laws
• Assistance of cultural resource site management and recordation.
