TUSCUMBIA-On the morning of August 21st, around 4:30 a.m., our deputies were called to assist at the Hwy 43/72 intersection in Tuscumbia. Upon arrival, deputies encountered a distraught mother holding her 2-week-old infant who was not breathing and showing signs of distress.
Without hesitation, Deputies Luke Truitt, Dakota Harper, and Frank Anderson—under the direction of their supervisor Lt. Michael Terrell—made the critical decision to act immediately. Deputy Anderson secured the child and began lifesaving measures while riding in Deputy Truitt’s patrol car, as deputies ran code escort to Helen Keller Hospital. Tuscumbia Police also assisted with the escort.
Thanks to the quick, decisive actions of everyone involved, the infant made it safely to the ER where medical staff were able to provide immediate treatment. Hospital staff have since confirmed the child is expected to recover.
We are extremely proud of Deputies Truitt, Harper, and Anderson for their courage, professionalism, and dedication to preserving life. Their actions represent the very best of the Colbert County Sheriff’s Office.
Please join The Colbert County Sheriff’s Department in commending them for their outstanding service.
