Sidney Ray White, Sr., age 82, of Huntsville, Alabama, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of faith, integrity, and service to his family, profession, and community.

Sidney is survived by his beloved wife, Judith Baker White; his son, Sidney Ray White Jr. (Lia) of Madison; and his cherished grandchildren: Sidney Ray White III (Marisa) of Erie, Colorado, William Grant White (Maria) of Nashville, Tennessee, and Caroline White Barr (Sam) of Brentwood, Tennessee. He is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Margaret Johanna White and Roger Caprio White, both of Nashville, Tennessee; and by his sister, Sheila Ahlstrom (Craig) of Warren, Michigan; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Born on September 9, 1942, in Rogersville, Alabama, to P.B. White Jr. and Mary Kathleen White, Sidney was raised with strong Christian values that guided his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Patrick Benton White III, and his daughter, Mary Frances White.

Sidney graduated from Florence State College (now the University of North Alabama) in 1964 with a degree in accounting. He went on to serve his country as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army, demonstrating the same dedication and leadership that would define his professional and personal life.

In 1966, Sidney married Judith Baker White, and together they settled in Huntsville, where he began his career as a CPA with Ernst and Ernst. In 1971, he founded the firm that would become White, Fleming and Company, which evolved into the Huntsville office of Warren Averett. Sidney served his clients with care and professionalism, and he cherished the relationships he built over the years. His leadership and vision helped shape the accounting profession in North Alabama, and he mentored countless professionals throughout his career.

Sidney’s commitment to community was evident in his extensive involvement across Huntsville. He served on numerous boards including the Advisory Board of Servis 1st Bank, the Alabama Space Science and Exhibition Commission, Wellstone, Russell Hill Cancer Foundation, and the Solid Waste Disposal Authority of Huntsville contributing his expertise and wisdom to organizations that mattered deeply to him. He was also a graduate of Leadership Huntsville/Madison County Class 5.

A devoted Christian, Sidney was a founding member of Asbury Church, where he served faithfully in various leadership roles over the years. His passion for ministry extended far beyond the church walls. He was deeply involved in mission work, especially through Emmaus, the Kairos Prison Ministry at Limestone Prison, and VOLNA (Voz de Libertad), a prison ministry in Costa Rica. Sidney’s faith was the foundation of his life, and he lived it out daily through service, kindness, and humility.

Above all, faith and family were of utmost importance to Sidney. His greatest joy was found in the love of his family, and he considered them his most treasured legacy. He instilled in them the values of love, faith, the importance of family, kindness, and friendship—principles that will continue to live on through generations.

Sidney enjoyed spending time at his farm in Tennessee, traveling, and any activity related to the outdoors. Most of all, he treasured time spent with his three grandchildren, who brought him immeasurable joy and pride.

His life was a testament to the power of faith, hard work, and love. As the Apostle Paul wrote in 2 Timothy 4:7 (NIV), “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” Sidney lived these words fully, and he will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Visitation will be from 12 to 2 p.m. on Monday, August 11, at Asbury Church on Hughes Road in Madison, with the service to follow at 2. There will be a private family graveside service at Maple Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Asbury Church, the Huntsville Hospital Foundation, Wellstone, Inc., or Parkinson’s Dynamics.
