Funeral services for Mr. Donald “Don” Patterson age 85, of Clay County will be held on Tuesday June 10, 2025 at 2:00 P.M. at Marvin’s Chapel with Bro. Wesley Higginbotham officiating, burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery.

Mr. Patterson passed away on Friday June 6, 2025 at his residence. He was a native and lifelong resident of Clay County and a graduate of Bibb Graves High School. Before his retirement he worked as a diesel mechanic for North Alabama Express and Georgia Pacific. He enjoyed farming, working with his cattle, tinkering and fixing things keeping the “Old Stuff” working. Don loved the Lord, had served for many years as a deacon at West End Baptist Church in Alexander City and was also a member at Marvin’s Chapel. His Family was also very important to him and time spent with them was very precious.

He is survived by his loving wife Martha Winslett Patterson of Clay County, his daughter; Stephanie Patterson Jordan (Jimmy Pettus) of Ashland, his two sons; Steve Patterson (Tracy) and Scott Patterson both of Clay County, his sister; Eugenia “Dinky” Watts of Talladega, and his brother; Heron “Cotton” Patterson , 10 grandchildren; Tiffanie Character (Jeremy), Constance Bailes (Ross), Chelsea Rush (Justin), Kaleigh Whiley (Landon), Candace Adams (Austin) Conway Shirey (Marina), Amanda Patterson, Cassidy Evans (Aaron), Abbie Patterson, and Kaitlyn Patterson, also 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George S. Patterson and Lula Aileen Foster Patterson, two daughters; Martha Jane Patterson and Karen Leigh Patterson, four sisters; Myrtle Barnett, Gertrude Hill, Louise Wallace, and Thelma Juanita Lackey.

Active pallbearers will be Jeremy Character, Ross Bailes, Justin Rush, Landon Whiley, Justin Lackey, Lane Lackey, Luther Lackey and Jimmy Barnett.

Honorary pallbearers will be Randy Camp, Eddie Rozelle, Ben Woods, O’neil Woods, and Clara Woods

The family will receive friends at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland on Monday June 9, 2025 from 5:30 – 8:00 P.M. and he will lie in state at the church from 1:00 P.M. until service time at 2:00 P.M.
