DECATUR – On April 14, 2025, TVA’s Browns Ferry Unit 2 was successfully synced to the grid following its scheduled refueling and maintenance outage.  Work performed prepares the unit for a two-year cycle of operation supplying the Tennessee Valley with reliable, affordable energy.

“Our scheduled outages are designed to complete maintenance on our systems to strengthen performance once returned to service,” said Browns Ferry Site Vice President Daniel Komm. “The Browns Ferry Team completed more than 11,000 work activities during this work window bolstering Unit 2 performance to meet our Mission of Service to the Valley.”

Work completed during this outage included significant maintenance to the unit’s generator to ensure long-term health and reliability. Other tasks included fuel replenishment and refurbishments of several electrical systems.  Maintenance performed during this outage supports TVA’s intention to extend the service life of its reactors with pending subsequent license renewal requests submitted to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

Browns Ferry Unit 2 is one of seven TVA nuclear reactors generating low-cost and carbon-free energy across TVA’s seven-state region. TVA’s nuclear fleet is the third largest in the nation, safely and reliably providing about 40 percent of all electricity used by nearly 10 million people in the Tennessee Valley.
