Mr. James Vernon Austin, 82, of Florence, passed away Monday April 29, 2013, at ECM Hospital. Visitation will begin at 2pm Wednesday at Greenview Funeral Home followed by the service at 4pm in Greenview Memorial Chapel with Rev. Donnie McDaniel and Rev. John Powell officiating. Burial will follow in Greenview Memorial Park.
Mr. Austin was a native of Lauderdale County and a member of Underwood Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the US Army having served in the Korean War and was retired as an operating engineer with Local #320 of the I. U. O. E.
Mr. Austin was preceded in death by his parents, Dupree and Toye Austin. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Carolyn Britnell Austin; children, Jim Austin, Mobile, AL and Melissa Austin Perry (Barry), Killen; grandchildren, Jonathan Austin, Matt Austin, Taylor Perry, and Hannah Grace Perry; brother, Charles Austin and sister, Frances Daniel, Iron City, TN.
Pallbearers will be Taylor Perry, J. W. Simmons, Kevin Copous, Vernon Smith, Bill Wooten and Bill Bailey. Honorary pallbearers will be members of John Powell’s Sunday School class.
In lieu of flowers the family request that memorials be made to the building fund of Underwood Baptist Church.
