Mr. Steven LaJuan Moss was born March 13, 1961, in Brinkley, Arkansas to the late Carlton Moss and Jureline Williams-Scruggs. He departed this life on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, while at home surrounded by his loving family members. He was preceded in death by his parents Carlton Moss, Jureline Williams-Scruggs, and Norman Scruggs.
Steven moved to Huntsville, Alabama in 1974 and graduated from James Oliver Johnson (J.O. J.) High School in 1979.
Steven confessed hope in Christ in 2018, joining Draper Memorial Church of God in Christ, under the leadership of Reverend Dave Draper, Jr. Steve was previously an employee of J & J South Central in Huntsville, AL for many years, before being hired at WestRock Containers. He was fortunate to make lifelong friends that became family to him at both companies. Steven became creative during the pandemic and taught himself to sew, making masks and inspirational pillows. He even started his own clothing line calling it, “MossHead”, which involved making various designs on t-shirts. He enjoyed it to the fullest.
Steven leaves to cherish his memories, a loving and dedicated wife, Melody Lacy-Moss; five children: Chauntaye (Ron) Edmond of Murfreesboro, TN, LaQuisha Lacy of Nashville, TN, Shanika Moore and Martela Lacy of Huntsville, AL and Trey Pride of Madison, AL; eleven grandchildren: Lamar, Amirah, Chaya, Aliyah, Ayanah, Isaiah, Nathan, Dorron, Kiori, Damarcous, and Damarioun; siblings: Antonio Scruggs of Huntsville, AL, Sharon Richardson of Atlanta, GA, Terry Miller of Chicago, IL, and Chris Moss of Flint, MI; aunts: Freddi Williams of Little Rock, AR, Gwendolyn Scaife of Pine Bluff, AR, Brenda Moss of Southfield, MI, and Brenda Scruggs of Huntsville, AL; uncles: Dr. Jerry V. Williams of Baton Rouge, LA, James Williams of Muskegon, MI, Louis (Mary) Moss of Pine Bluff, AR, Lawrence (Brenda) Moss of North Little Rock, AR, and Eddie Scruggs of Harvest, AL; great-uncle: John A. Drake of Harvest, AL; special cousins: Jawanda Burton, Dedrick Williams, Brandon Collins, Kandra (Rock) Adell, Gary Burton of Little Rock, AR, Jennipher Williams, Tiffany Williams of Baton Rouge, LA and Tabitha Conway of Milwaukee, WI; mother-in-law: Ester Lacy; father-in-law: William Lemons, Jr.; sisters-in-law: Deborah (Allen) Lacy-Corbett of New Market, AL, Linda Lemons, Peggy Lemons, Angela Lemons of Huntsville, AL; brothers-in-law: Rodney (Terri) Hambrick, Timothy Lemons of Huntsville, AL, Jerome (Rebecca) Lemons of National City, CA, and Willie Lemons of New Market, AL; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be 12:00 noon, Saturday, June 29, 2024 at the Draper Memorial Church of God in Christ (313 Beirne Avenue, Huntsville, AL 35801) with Elder Dave Draper officiating. Interment will be in the Meadowlawn Garden of Peace. Mr. Moss will lie in repose one hour prior to funeral time.
Public viewing will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., Friday, June 28, 2024 and 8:30 a.m. until 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 29, 2024 at the Royal Funeral Home.
