Lydia was the daughter of Fannie Russell Hastings and Solomon S. Hastings. Born August 21, 1937. She attended Scottsboro High School and graduated from Woodville, AL High School in 1957. After graduating High School, she chose to spend her time raising a family and volunteering in whatever community she lived in. She worked at the Brewer Insurance Agency for many years; kept books and verified records for Maples Company and J.P. Stevens Co., in Scottsboro. Her volunteer record consisted of teaching Sunday School as a young teen. She always found time to volunteer for her children’s teachers. While working during the day she would work on whatever was needed of her. She served as a Room Mother many times and started a volunteer program in most schools her children attended. She volunteered at the main office of the Red Cross as a receptionist. She worked with the Salvation Army in many capacities. While staying busy with work and volunteering, her children were always first and foremost with her. Her love for her family and friends never faltered.
