Gordon William Konyndyk, age 82 of Tullahoma, passed away peacefully on December 4, 2023, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville surrounded by his children. Gordon was born on October 3, 1941, in Wyoming, Michigan to the late Corniel and Gertie (Faber) Konyndyk. Gordon retired from Arnold Engineering Development Center, where he began his career as an Electrical Engineering co-op student from the University of Michigan and worked for thirty-seven years in various Electrical Engineering roles. Gordon’s hobbies in life included farming, gardening, sports, singing, hunting, fishing, rock hounding, birding, and working puzzles. He loved good food! Gordon’s true passions in life were spending time with his family and serving his community in various civic roles. He was a life-long member of the Tullahoma Lions Club where he served as treasurer. He also served as the president of the Leo Club, a North Franklin County Volunteer Fireman, a Tennessee Secondary Schools Athletic Association (TSSAA) referee, a member of the Tullahoma Civic Choir, a member of the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America (SPEBSQSA), giving numerous hours to the AARP tax service, and served as mentor for the Tennessee Promise Scholarship recipients. Gordon loved watching University of Tennessee and University of Michigan football and University of Tennessee women’s softball, as well as Franklin County and Tullahoma High Schools football and wrestling. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.
In addition to his parents, Gordon is preceded in death by his wife, Joyce; stepson, Steven Durham; brothers, George (Ada) Konyndyk and Chet Konyndyk; sisters, Caroline (Dick) Davis and Nancy Meyer; and brother-in-law, Don Kornoelje. He is survived by his daughters Launa (Steve) Underwood of Winchester Springs and Lainie (Palo) Harrison of Lynchburg; son, Leith (Erika) Konyndyk of Tullahoma; grandsons, Lake (Bailey) Konyndyk and Roark Konyndyk; step-daughter, Brenda (Vernon) Branch and her family; step-son, Chris (Charmin) Durham and his family; sister, Dolores (Dale) Phelps; brother-in-law, Art Meyer; sister-in-law, Marilyn Konyndyk; sixteen nieces and nephews; and his loving dog and faithful friend, Buttons. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. Visitation will be from 11am-2pm on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral Services will follow at 2:00 pm in the Moore-Cortner Chapel. Interment will be at Franklin Memorial Gardens.
