Gene Autry Gist, 86, of Iuka, Mississippi, born on October 10, 1937, left this life on Wednesday, November 1, 2023. Papa Gene, as he was called, was a member of Local 669 Sprinkler Fitters Union, and he also took on a second career as an over-the-road truck driver. Gene enjoyed traveling, listening to bluegrass music, playing his banjo and mandolin, and watching football on Sundays with his family. During his later years, Gene was a Primitive Baptist Preacher and loved the Lord his God. He will be missed by many. Gene leaves his wife, Martha Gist; his children, Tracy Gist Wimbish and her husband Robert, and Michael Curtis Gene Gist; his grandchildren, Sarah Whitlee Wimbish, Molly Kathryn Wimbish Salinas and her husband Genaro, and Kaylee Gist Winters and her husband Jacob; and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Nathan Leander Gist; and his mother, Pearl Anglin Gist. Cutshall Funeral Home in Iuka is entrusted with the arrangements. Visitation is scheduled from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 3, 2023, at Cutshall Funeral Home in Iuka. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 4, 2023, at Cutshall Funeral Home Chapel in Iuka, officiated by Elder Clinton Barnett and Elder James Pete Perry. Interment will follow in Mt. Evergreen Cemetery. Pallbearers include Chad Pearson, Zach Yow, Wayburn Bowling, Brad Whitson, Jacob Winters, and Jay Huggins.
