L. Yvonne Tanner 89, of Sheffield, passed away peacefully in her home on Friday, March 29, 2013.
Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. Monday, April 1, at York Terrace Baptist Church, Sheffield. The funeral service will follow at 4 p.m. in the church with Brother Rodney Shewbart officiating.
Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery, Sheffield.
Pallbearers will be the grandchildren.
She was a member of York Terrace Baptist in Sheffield. She worked during WWII in an oil refinery as part of the war effort, taught Sunday school for over 50 years, helped teach a Bible Study at Archer Village and worked at Poole’s Flowers, and Rogers Dept. Store.
She was preceded in death by her first husband Staff Sgt. Albert Evans (killed in action during WWII) and her husband of 54 years, T. J. (Bob) Tanner.
Survivors include daughters, Ruth Evans McKinney, of Sheffield, Faye Tanner Kelly, of Knoxville, Tenn., and Anne Tanner Johns, of Tuscumbia; son, Robert T. (Bob) Tanner and wife Susan, of Florence; brother, R. D. Walker (Mary Lou), of Calion, Ark.; sister, Barbara Smith, of West Monroe, La.; sister-in-law, Lavonne Tanner Thames, of Hemphill, Texas; 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to York Terrace Baptist Church Children’s Department, kari’sheartfoundation.org, and the American Heart Association .
