Mr. Ernest “Gene” Eugene Buchanan, age 91, passed away Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at Shepherd’s Cove Hospice in Albertville, Alabama.
Mr. Buchanan was born December 4, 1931 to Oliver Burton Buchanan and Annie Lou Delia Harrell Buchanan. He was married to Fay Smith Buchanan who passed away in July of 2019. Gene retired from civil service where he was a Water Treatment Plant Superintendent. He was of the Baptist faith and a faithful member of New Friendship Baptist Church where he served for many years as a Deacon. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening and camping.
Gene is survived by his sons, Joe Buchanan (Jenny), James Buchanan (Linda) and Daryl Buchanan (Alison); daughter, Sandra Dotson; brother, Roy Buchanan (Pat); sister, Virginia Medlock (Jonathan); twelve grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren.
Gene is preceded in death by his parents, Oliver and Annie Buchanan; son, Harold Buchanan; brothers, Bobby Buchanan and J.C. Buchanan; sisters, Mary Roe, Nell Bright and Doris Chapman.
A visitation will be Friday, May 5, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at New Friendship Baptist Church. The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation beginning at 3:00 p.m. Interment will be at the adjoining church cemetery. Brother Daniel Boutwell will be officiating.
Pallbearers escorting Mr. Buchanan to his final resting place in New Friendship Cemetery will be Corey Buchanan, Daniel Buchanan, Branden Blamer, Vann Dotson, Russell Dotson and Zac Buchanan.
