On Sunday, July 29, 1945, Carol Ann Brown was born to Charles B. Brown and Ada Jackson Brown (Joyner), in East St. Louis, Illinois. Carol enjoyed her childhood, where she joyously adventured with her four siblings, Thurman, Charles, Ronnie, and Linda. Carol loved being in competition, especially with her brothers. She was highly motivated as a young girl and throughout her life.
At an early age, Carol’s love for the Lord and study of His Word was obvious. She was baptized into the Seventh-Day Adventist Church and faithfully serviced God through her life. During the summers Carol worked in a number of Tent Evangelism efforts as a Bible Worker, and served as a Missionary in Africa in 1982. Carol shared her faith without apology, but with tact and warmth. Carol served faithfully in her church until her health failed.
Carol had a strong desire and was driven towards education. In 1977, Carol earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Education from Oakwood College, following which she joined the faculty and staff of Pine Forge Academy where she taught typing, shorthand, and business principles. In 1981 Carol earned her Master of Science in Business Education from Alabama A&M University followed by her Master of Computer Science in 1986. Carol pursued and earned credit hours towards her Doctorate Degree in Educational Technology at North Central University-University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa.
Carol had a wonderful career that she absolutely loved. For over 44 years, she passionately taught and mentored students from elementary through graduate studies. A proponent of education, Carol educated, reassured, encouraged, and tutored students to meet their “real potential”. She was deemed “A Teacher’s Teacher”. Carol was a Professor of Business and Computer Sciences courses at Oakwood College (University), A&M University, The University of Alabama-Huntsville, Oakwood University LEAP, and Calhoun Community College. She was employed with IBM in Lexington, KY from 1985-1988. was blessed to receive several awards that recognized her contributions to the Education field. After retiring, Carol taught in the Lake County Schools in Leesburg, Florida; she was strongly committed to education.
All who knew Carol, knew her generosity, love for activity, community engagement and desire to love a truly Christian life. Carol was tireless and very active in her churches, serving in many capacities over the years as a pianist, choir member, community service, Sabbath School teacher and Assistant Superintendent, greeter, secretary, and Deaconess. She was enthusiastic regarding Wholistic Health and treatment, successfully helping many with health issues.
Carol is preceded in death by her father, Charles Brown, daughter, Delores Brooks, brothers, Thurman and Charles Brown, and sister, Linda Sykes.
Carol was a loving mother, daughter, sister, aunt, a faithful friend, teacher, and mentor who brightened the lives of those who knew her selfless love, bright smile, sense of humor and joy for life. She will be missed and cherished by her mother, Ada Joiner (Huntsville, AL), son, Kenneth Brooks (Leesburg, FL), brother, Charles Brown (Huntsville, AL) nieces, nephews, adopted Daughters Marcia Bates and Margaret. She will also forever be remembered for her love and encouragement by her other Daughters in Christ, Deborah Thomas-Robinson, Nondumisa Johnson, and Rosalyn Hall. Carol will be missed and cherished by her church families, former colleagues, students, and a host of other friends and associates.
Carol received quality care from E.T. York Hospice Center (Gainesville, FL) where she peacefully passed away, on the Sabbath with family at her side with singing and prayers.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 7, 2023 at the Mt. Calvary Seventh-Day Adventist Church (1201 Meadow Dr NW, Huntsville, AL 35816). Interment will be in the Meadowlawn Garden of Peace. Mrs. Brooks will lie in repose one hour prior to funeral service time.
The Brooks family will receive guests from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 7, 2023 at the Mt. Calvary Seventh-Day Adventist Church.
Masks are required for entry into the service.
