Margaret Dunn Mynes obituary, 1926-2023, Auburn, AL Margaret Dunn Mynes

November 2, 1926 – March 8, 2023

Margaret Dunn Mynes passed away peacefully at Bethany House in Auburn, Alabama, on March 8, 2023. Margaret was born in Gordonsville, Virginia, on November 2, 1926, to her parents, Harry Clinton Dunn and Anna Elizabeth Weller Dunn.

Margaret loved her family, friends, traveling and following the Alabama Crimson Tide. She called Decatur, Alabama, her home but after moving to Auburn with her husband, Jim, to be close to her only daughter, she loved living here. She was an avid bridge player at both Azalea Place and Auburn Assisted Living. She made great friends at both places.

She is survived by her only child, Beverly Mynes Pettey (Bob); her grandchildren, Robert H. Pettey III, Sheridan Pettey Briskman (Josh) and Gregory Mynes Pettey (Michelle); and six great-grandchildren, Robert H. Pettey IV, Emma Lawrence Pettey, Williams Lyle Briskman, Joshua Mayer Briskman, Ann Thompson Pettey, and Adeline Margaret Pettey. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 74 years, James Lyle Mynes; her parents; her brother, Harry Dunn; her sisters, Lillian Dunn Hilderbrand and Anna Mae Dunn Hagan; and her great-grandson, Gregory Mynes Pettey Jr.

The family would like to thank the staff, residents and Margaret’s bridge buddies at Auburn Assisted living who she so enjoyed the last years of her life. Also, the family would like to thank the compassionate ladies at the Bethany House whose names may not be remembered but whose kindness will always be remembered. Lastly, the family would like to give a big thank you to Reverend Earl Ballard who has always been there for us.

There will be a graveside service for friends and family on Saturday, March 11, 2023, at noon, at Garden Hills Cemetery with the Reverend Earl Ballard officiating.

The family respectfully declines the gift of flowers but donations in Margaret’s name can be made to the Bethany House, 1171 Gatewood Drive, Auburn, Alabama 36830 or the Food Bank of East Alabama, 355 Industry Drive, Auburn, Alabama 36830.
