Frances “Fran” Ruth Gillock Chick went to see Jesus on Tuesday, September 13, 2023. She passed peacefully with her eyes to the sky. She is survived by her two daughters (Linda Kaye Chick Schriver and Elizabeth Anne Chick), two sons-in-law, and three incredible grandchildren.
Frances was part of a proud and humble Springfield family. She was the youngest daughter of James A. Gillock and Georgie Mae Tinch Gillock. Her sister, Betty Jo Gillock, served as a fearless and compationate nurse, and her brother, James “Jack” Ralph Gillock, was a talented machinist and carpenter. They were a modest farming family, easy to love and quick to serve the Lord.
Fran graduated from Austin Peay State University with a degree in Library Science. She held positions in education, merchandise, and travel. Her most treasured role was that of wife and mother. She relished being a military wife and the mom of two rambunctious girls. She was loving and kind and patient. Her daughters have inherited her talent for sewing and crafts of all kinds. Most important, she taught her daughters to love the Lord. Her laugh was infectious, and she was a friend to all.
Fran’s funeral service will be held in the Austin & Bell Funeral Home Chapel in Springfield on Thursday, October 6 at 11am. The family will receive friends before the service from 10am-11am at the funeral home.
Fran will be buried next to her family in the Berea Christian Cemetery. There will be no graveside service.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Stokes Brown Public Library in Springfield.
Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield is in charge of these arrangements.
