Lola Light Lola Light was born April 10, 1937 in Canute, Oklahoma to Frances Katherine and John Henry Ziegenfuss.  She died peacefully at home on September 14, 2022 in Huntsville, Alabama at the age of 85.

Lola was a lifelong Catholic and advocate for the poor and underserved.  She lived her faith and loved her family and friends.  Heaven is indeed celebrating the arrival of their newest angel.  Godspeed, Mom!

Lola married in 1960 and moved to Arkansas where her two daughters were born before moving back to Oklahoma where her son was born.  In 1973, she remarried and the family moved to Texas where her youngest daughter was born.  In the late 70s, the family settled in Huntsville, Alabama.  The annual family trips to visit the large extended family in Oklahoma created wonderful family memories, not only for the journey, but everyone loved Aunt Loyola and her visits home.

Miss Lola, as she is lovingly remembered by many, raised a bunch of babies in her home day care which she ran for 27 years.  She was a wonderful caregiver for the parents as well as their babies.  She loved baking.  Her birthday cakes were epic, her cookies were an annual event for Vacation Bible School, and her after school treats will always be remembered fondly by her children, grandchildren, and day care children.  Her Joyful Bakers held much anticipated bake sales to benefit the building fund at St. Joseph’s.

After retiring in 2007, she continued volunteering with the St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store and at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.  The Christmas Basket program was a labor of love every holiday season for almost three decades for Lola, her family, and a huge army of faithful volunteers.  Her ministry with the St. Vincent de Paul Society also spanned decades as she inspired so many with her dedication to the mission of feeding the poor and being of service to people in need.

Lola was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers: Edward, Henry, Frederick (Opal), and Ambrose; four sisters: Josephine Luttmer (Albert), Emma Peters (Frank), Anna Clancy (Tom), and Agnes Luttmer (Walter), and one grandson (Jonathon Robinson).

She is survived by four children: Terri Light, Pam Robinson, Chris Light, and Julie Wittschen (Andy); four grandchildren: Matt Light (Laura), Jessica Rhodes (Sean), Shandy Scheurich (Shaun), and Spencer Wittschen; five great-grandchildren: Ember and Sawyer Rhodes, Chloe Light, and Loyola and Evelyn Scheurich.

She is survived by one sister, Johanna Lamar, Canute, OK, and two sisters-in-law, Evelyn Ziegenfuss, Muleshoe, TX and Carolyn Ziegenfuss, Canute, OK.  Her precious nieces and nephews were loved by Aunt Loyola and remembered often with cards and calls.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 25, 2022 from 6 – 8PM at Berryhill Funeral Home with rosary at 7:30PM.  A Funeral Mass will begin at 11AM on Monday, September 26, 2022 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 2300 Beasley Ave, Huntsville, AL 35816 followed by a funeral luncheon in St. Francis Hall.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the St. Vincent de Paul Society or Holy Family School Capital Campaign in Lola’s memory.
