William Nugent Nelson, Jr. of Huntsville passed away Friday two days before his 85th birthday. Bill was born and raised in Jackson, MS and graduated from Central High School in 1957. He was a 1963 graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi where he was a member of the ROTC program. Bill proudly served his country as a 1st Lt. in the United States Army, receiving an honorable discharge in 1966.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William Nugent Nelson, Sr. and Rachel Belva Nelson. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Bonnie Nelson; daughter Kristi Haley (Chris); son, Scott Nelson (Andrea); granddaughter, Jordan Bevel (Glen); grandsons, Grant Butler and Brandon Butler (Anna); step granddaughter, Abby Haley and step grandson, Drew Haley.
Bill was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who loved spending time with his family, riding motorcycles and taking long drives in his Mustang convertible with his wife, Bonnie.
Visitation will be Wednesday, April 27, 2022 from 1:00 – 2:30 pm at Laughlin Service Funeral Home followed by a Celebration of Life at 2:30 p.m.
