Johnny E. Head, 76, of Huntsville, passed away Monday, April 25, 2022. Born April 12, 1946, in Decatur, IL, John enlisted in the US Army after graduating high school in 1963 and served his country in the US Army until 1983. During his service, SFC Head served in Viet Nam 1966-1967, 1968-1969 and 1970-1971 and received the Senior enlisted crew member wings, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal with V Device, Army Accommodation Medal with V Device, National Defense Service Medal, Viet Nam Service Medal with 10 battle stars, and Viet Nam Campaign Medal.
Following his honorable discharge, Johnny went to work for the Tech Data Management Division at Redstone Arsenal to continue to support the US Army.
Survivors include his wife, Chun Head; son, Dwayne Springman (Karen); daughter, Gwen Powell (Brent); grandchildren, Drake Springman, Katrina Springman, Anna Powell and Trace Powell; brother, David Head; and sister, Doris Head. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Head and Margaret Franklin Head; brothers, Roy Head and Wayne Head; sister, Sue Head; and daughter, Mary ‘Missy’ Head.
Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon Thursday, April 28, 2022, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 12:00 noon. Inurnment will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri.
