Carolyn Fields Metheny, 64, of South Bend, Ind., passed away at 2:59 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013, at Memorial Hospital. She was born on Aug. 24, 1948, in Florence, Ala. to the late Charles “Hook” and Louise (Baskins) Fields. On Oct. 16, 1993 in Gulf Shores, Ala., she married Edward P. Metheny.
Mrs. Metheny is survived by her husband, Edward P. Metheny; eight sons, Rick (Dana) Robertson, Rodney (Tammy) Robertson, Terry Robertson, Travis “Trampus” (Dawn) Stacy Jr., Pete (April) Stacy, Curtis White, Edward Metheny II and Brian (Jennifer) Metheny; six daughters, Jessica Stacy, Ruby Burgert, Brenda “Pumpkin” Roland, Rhonda Stacy, Missy Hill and Paula Metheny; twenty-nine grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; four brothers, Gary, Jerry “Toot”, Tim and Keith “Baby” Fields; and six sisters, Brenda Kollars, Linda Buck, Jane Franks, Donna (Tim) Jacobs, Kim Smitherman and Connie Johnson. She is also survived by her former husband, Jesse Travis Stacy. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Deloris Fields and Rachel Bass.
Mrs. Metheny lived most of her life in South Bend. She spent most of her life caring for her home and her children. She worked for a while as a caregiver at St. Mary’s Convent.
She attended Christ Temple Apostolic Church in South Bend. Mrs. Metheny was a very loving and kind person who would lighten up a room with her unique laugh.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, in the Palmer Funeral Home Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan St. South Bend, Ind. Graveside services and burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, South Bend. Friends may visit with the family from 5-8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
