Virginia Marie Sutton Owen, age 88, of Sheffield, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013.
Visitation will be Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013, 6-8 p.m., at Morrison Funeral Home of Tuscumbia.
A private graveside service will be held Wednesday with Steve Condra officiating.
Mrs. Owen was a native of Sheffield and was retired from the TVA Public Safety Office. She was a member of Cox Boulevard Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her parents, George Edward and Annie Marie Rigsby Sutton; her husband of 62 years, Auburn E. Owen Jr.; her son, Auburn Earl Owen III; brother, George Oscar Sutton; sisters, Jennie Lucille Scogin and Nancy Carole Whited.
She is survived by her daughters, Sherry Owen Moore and husband, Lewis, and Kerry Owen, all of Sheffield; brothers, George Edward Sutton Jr., and wife Nancy, of Austin, Texas, Samuel David Sutton and wife, Mary, of Knoxville, Tenn.; sisters, Callie Louise Dennis, of Birmingham, Martha Ann Nichols and husband, Ellis, of Killen; seven grandchildren, Stacey Mathes (Mark), Beth Moore (Anthony) Stephen Moore (Tracy), Jennifer Hargraves, Dennis Liles, J.D. Butler, Katie Holt; and ten great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers are Mark Mathes, Anthony Ledbetter, Blair Ledbetter, Blake Ledbetter, Stephen Moore and J. D. Butler.
The family would like to thank special caregivers, Melissa, Renee, Mary and Elizabeth.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to St Jude Children’s Hospital.
