Mr. Watts passed away on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at the Clay County Hospital. A lifelong resident of Clay County, upon graduating High School from Clay County High School, he entered and later graduated from the Police Academy in 1974. He was the youngest man ever to become Chief of police for the city of Lineville, and served his community for over 30 years in the police force. He also served as Clay County Commissioner District 1 for 8 years and owned and operated WW Construction and Wayne’s World of Watt-nots for the majority of his adult life. Wayne’s hobbies included spending time with his beloved family and dear friends. He also loved collecting antiques and pieces of Clay County history and memorabilia. He most enjoyed sitting on the front porch of Wayne’s world of watt-nots, surrounded by friends old and new. Wayne never met a stranger. His deep knowledge of the history of Clay County and its people made him an avid story-teller. He loved to share his knowledge and stories with all that he met. He deeply enjoyed spending time with his family and friends at his home at Berwick. All that knew Wayne knew that he greatly loved his family, and if you were his friend, he considered you to be family. He was always ready to help anyone without question or hesitation, and for this he will always be remembered as a generous and giving soul. Although he had been retired from law enforcement for a number of years, it still held a special place in his heart and remained his true and deepest passion. From a young boy with a toy police badge, Wayne knew that he wanted to grow up to serve and protect the citizens he knew and loved. Wayne’s family and friends take comfort in knowing that he shared a close relationship with our Lord and Savior and is now rejoicing in heaven.
He is survived by his wife (Blossom) of 50 years, Sharon Watts of Lineville; two children: Sherry Watts Gilbert (Brad) and William Klay Watts, both of Lineville; 5 grandchildren: Dylan Morris (Haley) of Lineville, Dalton Morris of Cragford, Rylee Watts, Katelyn Watts, and Charlee McKinney, all of Lineville; one great-grandson, Cole Morris; four sisters: Diane Moore (David), Wanda Moore (Arnold), both of New Site, Darlene Fuller of Alexander City, and Donna McQueen (Doby) of Deatsville; one brother, Danny Watts of Lineville, plus several nieces, nephews, and a large extended family.
He is preceded in death by his parents: Roy and Velma Lee Johnson Watts, and one infant son, Timothy Wayne Watts.
Waynes family and friends thank you for your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. He would want the citizens of Clay County to rejoice in the fact that he is celebrating in Heaven, and he would want you all to know that he loved you all. Potted plants and cut flowers are accepted, or donations can be made to the Clay County Rescue Squad or Clay County Animal Shelter.
