FLORENCE-Kennedy-Douglass Center for the Arts will present Art Expressions: Shoals Artist Guild Annual Members Show from October 17th through November 15th in the Kennedy-Douglass Annex Galleries. The group exhibit will include 3-dimensional artwork for the first time; to be judged in a separate category from the 2-dimensional pieces in oil, watercolor, pastel, acrylic, and mixed media. This year’s judge will be Aaron Benson, UNA Associate Professor of Art, Ceramics and Sculpture. The public is invited to attend the Opening reception on Sunday, October 17th from 1pm – 4pm to view the exhibit of over 40 works of art and meet members of the Artist Guild that will be present to answer questions about their work.
The Shoals Artists Guild was formed in 1952 for the purpose of fostering an interest in drawing or painting. Since that time, the Guild has been instrumental in encouraging artists to create artwork and in supporting the growth of the Arts in the area. The annual Members Show provides an opportunity for artists to showcase some of the work that they have completed over the course of the year. The Guild includes artists that work in a wide variety of 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional media, and across a broad range of styles and techniques. They meet the third Friday of each month at Kennedy-Douglass Center for the Arts for demonstrations in technique and process, and to discuss current topics relevant to visual arts. Members are welcome to stay after meetings to sketch or paint. The Guild maintains a permanent presence with original paintings and prints in the FAM gallery on the second floor of the Kennedy-Douglass art Center. For more information about joining the Guild contact Shoals Artist Guild President Carolyn Wear at: carolynwear@gmail.com. New members are always welcome.

The Kennedy-Douglass Center for the Arts is free and open to the public Monday – Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and on Sundays from 1:00 pm to 4:00 p.m. The Art Center is located at 217 E. Tuscaloosa St. Florence, AL and can be reached at 256-760-6379 for more information.
