Gregory Byron Gilbert passed away unexpectedly on July 7, 2021, at the age of 57.
Greg was born in Blakely, GA, on March 15, 1964. He grew up in Thomasville, AL where he graduated from Thomasville High School. He then attended Auburn University where he graduated in 1986 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Aviation Management and was an active member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity.
He and Mandy were married in June of 1990 and called Huntsville their home for 31 years where they raised their two precious children. His proudest moments were spent celebrating his family’s achievements, whether they were at Auburn or Samford. He enjoyed watching his children’s accomplishments both on the football field, and in the theater.
Greg was an accomplished sales executive, working in Huntsville during the tech boom for more than 30 years. He was a former member of the ACME club and served as president. He was a member of Huntsville First United Methodist where he served on the leadership committee and was stewardship chairman. Greg lived out the Auburn Creed as he truly believed in Auburn and loved it with all his heart. Some of his favorite moments with family and friends were spent watching an Auburn game, whether it be football, basketball, baseball, and even softball. His family and friends will long remember him for his love of college sports, his mastery of the grill and the funny family stories he shared over dinner. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, and son who truly cared for those he loved.
Greg is survived by his wife, Madolyn “Mandy”; son, Hollis; daughter, Mary Armor; mother, Lynette; brother, Matt and sister in-law, Susan. He was preceded in death by his father, Jerry Gilbert, who passed away in April 2020.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 9, 2021, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. Greg will also be honored at a graveside service July 10, 2021, at Maple Hill Cemetery for close friends and family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to The Rose of Sharon Soup Kitchen or the Food Bank of North Alabama.
