Sarah Gwendolyn Smith, 86 of Athens, passed away on Wednesday, August 26, 2020 at her residence. Mrs. Smith was born in Lester, AL on June 4, 1934 to Vaud and Ruby Shelton.
She was a lifelong resident of Athens and Limestone County. Mrs. Smith was a member of West Hobbs Street Church of Christ. She graduated from West Limestone High School and attended the A.D. Business College in Birmingham. Mrs. Smith worked 55 years as an office manager and administrator and later as a business administrator of a medical group.
Preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 61 years, Jimmy Gene Smith.
She is survived by her sons, Eddie Smith (Pam) and Rodney Smith (Pam); granddaughters, Erica Griffin (Ryan) and Bailey Gregory (Jason); great grandchildren, Avaline Gregory, Jayde Gregory and Gunner Griffin.
Gravesides services for Mrs. Smith will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Hester’s Chapel Cemetery in Lester with Bill Irby and Eddie Smith officiating.
Pallbearers are Barry Smith, Greg Gaston, Rodney Britton, Mike McWhirter, Ryan Griffin and Jason Gregory. Honorary pallbearers are Stan Hogan, Joel Carwile, Stan Gaston and Steve Kerr.
