James Michael “Mike” Copeland, 52, of Scottsboro, Alabama passed away unexpectedly at his home on April 22, 2020.

Mike was a graduate of Scottsboro High School, class of 1986. He attended Northeast State Jr. College and studied Business Administration. He then went on to attend State Tech in Memphis, Tennessee where he studied Mechanical Drafting. Mike enjoyed a long career as a Service Advisor in the automotive industry, earning many awards along the way for his achievement and commitment to excellence.

Mike will be remembered for his deep love of family and Auburn Tigers football. He most enjoyed spending time with his daughter, Emma. Above all, Mike was known for his kind heart and generous spirit; Mike always looked out for the needs of others.

Mike is survived by his daughter, Emmalee Smith-Copeland; his mother, Emma Lou Copeland of Scottboro, AL; his sister Sonya (Perry) Hoge of Tullahoma, TN; brothers Doug Copeland and Tim Copeland, both of Scottsboro, and Gary Copeland of Muscle Shoals, AL; nieces Amanda (Marshall) Murdock of Murfreesboro, TN and Savannah Graham of Hixson, TN; nephews Riley (Lori) Hoge of Christiana, TN, Jason (Erin) Copeland of Homewood, AL, and Douglas Copeland of Houston, TX. He is also survived by his great-niece Emerson Murdock and great-nephews Hunter Hoge, Jase Hoge, and Carter Copeland, along with many other family members and friends that he loved dearly.

Mike was preceded in death by his father, L. Wayne Copeland, and his nephew, Dustin Copeland.

Mike’s greatest joy in life was his young daughter, Emmalee Smith-Copeland. The family will be establishing a trust at First National Bank in Scottsboro, Alabama, to secure Emma’s future. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that all donations be directed here.

A graveside service for the family is being held.
