Marvin Ezekiel Carroll, Jr., 88, of Hazel Green soared into Heaven April 16 in the presence of his loving family.
He was preceded in death by the mother of his daughters, Patra Carroll, his grandson Henry J. “Jay” Carter IV, his son-in-law, Henry J.”Son” Carter III, his parents Florence and Marvin Carroll and his sister, Mary Braddock Carter.
He is survived by his loving daughters, Kim Carter, Pam (Roger) Grider and Amy (Lance) Church; grandsons Brad (Christy) Carter, Dalton Church, Jordan (Josie) Church, Coleman (Karina) Grider and Hunter Grider; granddaughter-in-law, Jessica Carter; great-grandchildren, Aisley Carter, Michael and Lily Grider, Bentley and Baron Carter and Arthur Church.
Marvin graduated from The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga with a degree in Physics. He proudly served in The United States Air Corps and The United States Air Force. Marvin worked with the National Advisory Committee on Aeronautics while stationed at Langley Air Force Base in Virginia. He was in the first groups transferred to Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville when NASA was formed. He continued to work at NASA while becoming a business owner, real estate broker, builder and developer. Leathertree, Greenlawn Estates, Brass Oaks, and Sagefield were some of his developments.
Some of his businesses include Carroll Real Estate, Hilltop Country Ham, Mason’s Supper Club, Yesterdays, Clinton Street, The Outlaw and Patricks.
Marvin was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed special times with his daughters, sons-in-law, and grandchildren hunting, camping and gardening. Marvin loved sports and supported The University of Tennessee Volunteers. He passionately supported his girls in their athletics at Hazel Green High School. Marvin was a true Southern gentleman leaving a legacy of love and encouragement that touched so many lives. He will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Hazel Green United Methodist Church where Marvin was a member for over 50 years.
Because of Covid-19 restrictions, the family is planning a Celebration of Life in the near future. Hazel Green Funeral Home is honored to serve and will announce the service details when circumstances allow.
