FLORENCE– Dr. Justin Carter, Assistant Professor of Management at the University of North Alabama, has launched a podcast, Rise & Roar, which features discussions on current topics and trends with business leaders from across all industries.
“I realized through my personal network of colleagues and friends that I have access to a broad knowledge base,” Dr. Carter said. “These conversations were already happening, and, by creating this podcast, I found a way to disseminate that information not only to my students but to the public at large.
Launching the podcast shortly after the COVID-19 quarantine became mandatory in Alabama allowed Dr. Carter the opportunity to address this challenging crisis from a business standpoint.
Some of his first podcasts include insights from Strategic Planning Facilitator Jim Sisson, “The Retail Doctor” Bob Phipps, and the President and Chief Executive Officer of the West Alabama Chamber of Commerce Jim Page. The initial episodes deal directly with the impact of the COVID-19 crisis on the economy, both locally and nationally.
“Experiential learning is a key emphasis in the UNA College of Business,” said Dr. Greg Carnes, Dean of the College. “Due to the COVID-19 crisis, one must think outside the box to continue to provide students with the best learning opportunities. Dr. Carter has found a way to do this.
While his students will benefit from these podcasts, other business leaders will as well.”
Dr. Carter admits he had limited experience with podcasts before launching Rise & Roar, but he quickly learned how to make the best use of the online broadcasting tool.
“At first, it was an experiment in trial and error,” he said. “But I was looking for a new challenge and wanted this to be a learning experience for me as well, and that’s certainly what I got.”
Rise & Roar, which is sponsored by the University of North Alabama College of Business, is available on the www.una.edu/youruna page as well as for download on iTunes, Spotify, Google Play, Podcast Addict, and will soon be on iHeartRadio.
