Donald Douglas Boatright passed away peacefully on April 11, 2020 at his home in Waterloo, Alabama at the age of 90.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Lady Goldie and James W. Boatright, siblings Hoyt Boatright and Wernita Robinson as well as wife, Mary Ann McCorkle Boatright, son, Joseph and wife Linda Wylie McCorkle Boatright.

Douglas was born January 16, 1930 in Gravelly Springs, Alabama. He was a 1948 graduate of Waterloo High School. In 1951, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Education from Alabama Polytechnic Institute. Douglas served in the US Air Force for four years as meat and dairy inspector for the Sixth Army and completed the Reppert School of Auctioneering program.

Mr. Boatright raised his family in Birmingham, Alabama and spent his career in the transportation industry, earning him a spot as President of the Southern Weed Science Society, as well as other various awards in his field. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, a Zamora Shriner and a Master Mason Twin City #76.

Douglas retired to his beloved native community of Waterloo in 1996 and has since cherished being tjude.org/memorialgiftsa member of the Waterloo Church of Christ and the Waterloo Senior Center. Douglas leaves behind his daughter Shawn Boatright of Waterloo and his son Shane Boatright (Alexa) of New Hampshire. He also leaves behind two grandchildren Mary Martha Donaldson (Taylor) and Max Donaldson (Mackenzie).

The family thanks the Waterloo community for their support and prayers, including Hubert & Ruth Lewis, the McFall family and Roy Lee McDonald. There will be no memorial service but friends are welcome to donate in his memory to the Waterloo Church of Christ Building Fund or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
