Marie Murphy Looney, age 82 of Decherd, passed away on March 17, 2020 at Rock Gate Assisted Living. Marie was born on November 11, 1937 in Liverpool, England to the late Edward and Mary Murphy. While living in England, Marie met her husband Gene who was stationed there and serving his county in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. Marie made Franklin County her home when Gene retired from the Air Force in 1977. She was a member and former employee of Good Shepherd Catholic Church. Marie will be sadly missed by her family and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Winburn “Gene” Looney; daughter, Donna Marie Looney; and son, Mark Edward Looney. Marie is survived by her son, Richard Eugene (Sandra) Looney of Boise, Idaho; twin sister, Frances (Alex) Simmons of Liverpool, England; sister-in-law, Christine Hopkins of Winchester; brother-in-law, Bill (Ruby) Luna of Tullahoma; five grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service celebrating Marie’s life will be held later in the spring. The family wants to thank Rock Gate Assisted Living for their love and care of Marie over the past few months.
