Harry George Fachet, Jr. passed away peacefully with his family by his side on February 17, 2020. He was born to Rita (Subers) and Harry Fachet, Sr. on December 11, 1949 in Chester, PA. He is survived by his wife, Helen (Pettengill); daughter, Heather Bond; son-in-law, Chris; granddaughters, Mary-Claire and Amanda; sister, Rita (Fachet); brother-in-law, Bill Maitland; nieces, Sharon (John), Kelly and Judy (Joe); as well as many extended family members. Harry met his future wife, Helen Pettengill at a St. James’ High School dance in Chester, PA. They married in 1971 and celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary on September 18, 2019.
Harry worked for Boeing in different locations for 32 years, retiring in 2005 as the Director of Operations for the Global Missile Defense Program. Retired life suited him well, allowing him to pursue his hobbies of making exquisite woodworking showpieces, such as an intricate dollhouse, kitchen cabinetry, and a grandfather clock. His favorite retirement activity was spending time on his boat, the Manhattanville, at Lake Guntersville Yacht Club, where he held the position of Commodore in 2012. He was instrumental in restoring the Yacht Club facilities after a Gravity Wave destroyed the docks in 2010 and again after a tornado tore through the property in 2012. One of his favorite events was the Semper Fi Task Force Heroes’ Week which honored Wounded Warriors by treating them to a beautiful lake tour and dinner at the yacht club each year. Harry was not just a beloved husband and father, but he was a generous man to all extended family and friends, who became like family.
He will live in our hearts forever.
Visitation will be from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday at Monte Sano United Methodist Church. A Celebration of Life service will follow at the church with the Rev. John Mullaney officiating. Refreshments will be served following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Semper Fi Task Force or Wounded Warrior Project.
