Jo Ann McKelvey Cote, 72, of Clearwater, Florida, formerly of Huntsville, AL, has fallen asleep peacefully to her final rest. Her
husband was with her at her death.
Jo Ann was born in Huntsville, AL in May of 1947, to Albert ‘Brother’ McKelvey Jr and Dorothy ‘Dot’ Jones McKelvey, both of the Huntsville area. She attended Central school in Ryland and Riverton school. During her teens, she played women’s softball and was known for her fast pitch slingshot.
In 1963 at the age of 17, she married Danny Hagood, divorcing in 1982. In 1983, she met the man that she dearly loved and cherished, Paul Cote’. They married in November of 1984. She and Paul resided in Huntsville for a short time and then traveled to Florida where they found a home in Clearwater. She loved Florida. While in Huntsville she became a private investigator, working both for herself and a local investigation company. While in Florida she worked as a security officer for Walt Disney World and several department stores before she retired.
Jo Ann is survived by her husband Paul A. Cote’; daughter, Jill Hagood of Grandview, TN and son, Ken Hagood of Gurley, AL; grandchildren, Chrissy Bartlett, Jami Lazarus (Derek), Jeremy Winsett, Alan Hagood, Kaleb Hagood and Aron Hagood; great-grandchildren, Dryden, Alden and Dassiah; and sisters, Janet Miller, Gwen Miller and Kristi Miller.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert McKelvey and Dot Miller, stepfather Alton Miller, brother Duane Miller, maternal grandparents, William Clifton and Zina Pearl Jones, and paternal grandparents, James Albert Sr. and Margaret Earl McKelvey.
Visitation will be Thursday, October 24th from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00: p.m. at Berryhill Funeral Home followed by a 12:00 p.m. Chapel service with burial to follow in Shiloh Methodist Church Cemetery with Berryhill Funeral Home assisting the family.
