Ted Allen Williams, of Knoxville, TN passed away Tuesday afternoon, July 23, 2019. He was a member of Hardin Valley Church of Christ. Born on September 13, 1935 in Rogersville, Alabama, he married Carolyn Moore Williams on Nov. 5, 1960 in Athens, Alabama. Ted worked as a contract engineer for NASA. He accepted employment at TVA and the family moved to Knoxville in January of 1970. He lived in west Knoxville for 45 years and made many friends.
In addition to his wife, Ted is preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include two sons, Bradley Williams and Russell Williams; granddaughter, Libby Williams; brother, Pete Williams; and first cousin, who was more like a brother, Steve Romine.
Ted Williams—a man undeterred by disability caused by polio, which afflicted him as a young child. He became the first in his family to graduate college with a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Alabama.
In the 60’s, he worked with NASA in Huntsville, Alabama. Our journey to the moon fifty years ago would never have happened if it weren’t for the engineering knowhow of men like Ted Williams.
After moving to Knoxville in 1970, he worked for TVA until retirement. If you had energy to power your homes, it was due to men such as him.
He met his wife of over fifty years, Carolyn, in what almost seemed divine providence after she randomly sat next to him in church. He was a loving husband and good provider.
He was a master with tools and could fix almost anything. If he couldn’t fix it, he could build a new one.
In retirement, he and Carolyn took a dirty pig farm in Hardin Valley and turned it into a beautiful lakeside estate. Despite his polio, until his late seventies, he would still ride his tractor and kept the property in pristine condition.
He was an excellent father, teaching his boys to love God without judging others, to work hard in all your endeavors, do unto others as you would have done unto you, and in everything you do, do so in moderation. For everything in life, there is a proper balance—moderation is the key.
Most importantly, he was a man of strong Christian faith who knew the Bible well. He would frequently discuss the heavenly realms, speculating as to what the afterlife would be like. By the grace of a loving God, now he knows. Now he has joined his wife, Carolyn, in heaven. After struggling with chronic pain and disability during his final months, now he is truly at peace.
The family will receive friends 4:40-6:30 pm Friday, August 2nd at Milestones Event Center (next door to Click Funeral Home Farragut Chapel). Click Funeral Home Farragut Chapel, 11915 Kingston Pike, Knoxville is serving the Williams family.
