Eugene “Gene” Gardner, of Elkmont, Alabama went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 21, 2025, at home in Elkmont, Alabama.
He was born on Monday, July 25, 1949, to Mr. Noel Gardner and Mrs. Lucille Street Gardner in Lincoln County, Fayetteville, Tennessee.
Eugene spent the last 35 years of his life in Elkmont, Alabama. He was of the Baptist faith.
Above all, He was a hardworking man who spent over 20 years working side-by-side with his brother as a skilled mechanic. Eugene also dedicated over twenty years to construction, a profession he fell in love with at just 14 years old when he started out as a helper. Gene was a family man who loved nothing more than spending time with his kids and grandkids. He felt at home out in the fresh air, whether he was casting a line on the water or hard at work on a construction project. He built a legacy not just with his hands, but through the endless love and time he gave his family.
He was preceded in death by both of his parents, one brother; Ray Gardner, and one sister; Sandy Gardner.
Gene is survived by his wife of 33 years; Deborah Gardner, two sons: Adam (Nickey) Gardner of Cullman, Alabama, Bradley (Vicki) Hilliard of Priceville, Alabama, two daughters: LaDonna (Shawn) Lewter of Lester, Alabama, Kimberly Baker of Fayetteville, Tennessee, one brother; Larry (Janet) Gardner of Mississippi, one sister; Josephine (Shelby) Dillworth, Fayetteville, Tennessee, as well as five grandchildren: Dylan Hilliard, Isabella Hilliard, Avery Lewter, Gunner Lewter, Kaden Gardner.
A visitation will be held at Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home located in Ardmore, Alabama on Friday, July 24, 2026, from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM. A Chapel Service will follow the visitation with service time beginning at 12:00 PM. Burial will follow in Mt. Pleasant Cement located in Ardmore Alabama. Bro. Steve Hargrove will officiate the service.
Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home will be assisting the family with services.
