Michael J. DiOrio, 91, beloved husband of Elizabeth (Liz) DiOrio, died on April 11, 2019. He was born on April 5, 1928 in Newark, NJ, the son of Michael and Madeline (Cecere) DiOrio. In 1949 Mike wed his high school sweetheart, Norma Testa, to whom he was married until her death in 1990. He was very fortunate to find love again and for the past 26 years was married to Liz. Mike was a sports enthusiast and an avid golfer. He also loved music and could often be heard crooning Frank Sinatra tunes. He was known for his quick wit, a wonderful sense of humor, and an ability to connect with people. It was these traits that enabled his 40-year career in manufacturing with Chesebrough Ponds. His 40 year run with Chesebrough began in Bloomfield, NJ, continued in Clinton, CT, and culminated in Madison, AL. He and Norma raised their family in Old Saybrook, CT and lived for 16 years in Decatur, AL. After retiring from Chesebrough Ponds and the passing of Norma, Mike spent his remaining years with Liz in Auburn, AL where he died. Besides his wife, Mike leaves behind his children: Kathy Panteleakos (Bill) of Brooklyn, CT, Michael DiOrio (Nancy) of Mystic, CT, Lori Davis (John) of Collierville, TN, John DiOrio (Sharron) of Birmingham, AL, Gary DiOrio (Lisa) of Atlanta, GA, Greg Looney (Nita) of Powder Springs, GA, and Greg Glasscock (Melinda) of Auburn, AL, as well as his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by Norma Testa DiOrio, Tina and Gracie Glasscock, and his brothers, Joseph and John DiOrio. A memorial service will be held on April 27 at 10:30 a.m. CST at the Founder’s Chapel of the Auburn United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice Angels, 1171 Gateway Dr., Building 100, Auburn, AL 36830.
