The funeral service for Billy L. Sprayberry, age 84 of Delta, will be on held on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Delta Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Burke, Rev. Ted Embry and Rev. David Holcombe officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Sprayberry passed away on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at the Clay County Nursing Home in Ashland. A native and life-long resident of Clay County, Mr. Sprayberry graduated from Lineville High School “Class of 1952”, was a US Army Veteran and a member and deacon at Delta Baptist Church. Mr. Sprayberry was retired from the Anniston Army Depot as a heavy mobile equipment mechanic and had also worked as a security guard for Wellborn Cabinets.
Mr. Sprayberry is survived by three daughters: Angie Knight of Ashland, Ginger Whitley (Bryan) of Lineville and Julie Dingler of Delta; one sister, Nettie Sue Hudson of Lineville; four grandchildren: Jacob Waldrop, Micah Knight, Win Knight, and Garrett Dingler; two great-grandchildren: Jaron Waldrop and Braden Waldrop, several nieces and nephews and a large extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents: William Larcus Sprayberry and Ora Lee Newell Sprayberry; his wife, Sarah Jo Phillips Sprayberry; eight sisters and four brothers.
Pallbearers will be Stanley Clarke, Scottie Hudson, Donnie Daugherty, Larry Daugherty, Wade Sprayberry, Shane Short, David Miller and Ray Sprayberry.
The Delta Baptist Church Deacons – Frank Sims and Sonny Clarke – will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville on Monday, October 1, 2018 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Mr. Sprayberry will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to service time
