Dan Powell Potts, age 80, of Florence, passed away Tuesday, May 22, 2018. He was born April 6, 1938 to Ocie Lee Faulkner Potts and William Pierson Potts, both of whom preceded him in death. He was a 1956 graduate of Coffee High School, where he was a member of the Yellow Jackets football team. He attended Florence State College (UNA). He was of the Baptist faith.
Mr. Potts worked in Huntsville and areas surrounding Atlanta, Georgia, for many years. He later worked at Martin Industries in Sheffield and worked a short time in Tennessee, before retiring and returning to Florence to assist his ailing mother.
He served in the Army National Guard of Alabama for a number of years. He was called to active duty for training purposes in Fort Hood, Texas, during the Berlin Crisis in preparation of a conflict with the Soviet Union, which thankfully was avoided.
He is survived by his sons, Daren Powell Potts and Wesley Pierson Potts, and friend, caregiver, and former spouse, Tina Balentine Potts.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, May 26, at Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens at 10 a.m. A family and friends visitation will be held at Mr. Potts’ home at 7326 Parkwood Street in Florence at 12:30 p.m. on May 26th.
