Spices Smokehouse Wins Best Overall at Guntersville Wild Game Cook-Off

GUNTERSVILLE-An aroma of delicious dishes filled the air as AWF Wild Game Cook-Off teams fired up their grills at the Civitan Park on Saturday, May 19th, preparing various mouthwatering fish, fowl and game dishes. With over 250 members and guests in attendance, Spices Smokehouse captured the top prize of “Best Overall,” with their scrumptious Woodfired Venison and Boar Pizza. Spices Smokehouse including Lynn Entrekin, Robert Entrekin, Kay Rice, Tee Rice and Bob Johnson will be invited to the state finals held at Lanark in Millbrook on August 4, 2018 to compete for the title of AWF 2018 Wild Game Cook-Off State Champion.

Fish Division: First Place – Firelake including Bill Slavin, Scott Newton, Dakota Helton and Andy Davis cooking G’Ritaville Fish and Stuffed PeppersSecond Place – Eagle Mountain including Jon Perkins, Leah Perkins, Marty Borntraeger and Marilyn Borntraeger cooking Seafood Dip; Third Place – Spices Smokehouse including Lynn Entrekin, Robert Entrekin, Kay Rice, Tee Rice and Bob Johnson cooking Oysters Rock.

Fowl Division: First Place – Chalk Branch Hunting Club including Bart Muse, Roy Hill, Chuck Cobb and Donny Parmer cooking Blackened Wild Turkey TortelliniSecond Place – La Familia including Cass Purdum, Jeff Purdum, Colby Newman and Leslie Clines cooking Jalapeno Duck PoppersThird Place – Spices Smokehouse including Lynn Entrekin, Robert Entrekin, Kay Rice, Tee Rice and Bob Johnson cooking Pheasant Quesadillas.

Game Division: First Place – Spices Smokehouse including Lynn Entrekin, Robert Entrekin, Kay Rice, Tee Rice and Bob Johnson cooking Woodfired Venison and Boar Pizza; Second Place – Eagle Mountain including Jon Perkins, Leah Perkins, Marty Borntraeger and Marilyn Borntraeger cooking Black Bear SlidersThird Place – Chalk Branch Hunting Club including Bart Muse, Roy Hill, Chuck Cobb and Donny Parmer cooking Deer Nuggets Roll.

1st Place Presentation Award went to Firelake, while Chalk Branch Hunting Club took home Best Presentation Runner-Up.

The purpose of AWF Wild Game Cook-Offs is to supply a place for AWF members to interact, for non-members to learn more about AWF, and to provide the opportunity to raise funds to support AWF and its programs and projects.  The Cook-Offs also demonstrate that sportsmen/women utilize the wild game and fish they harvest and cook it with care, skill and expertise to produce great table fare.
