LEIGHTON-The State Trooper Post in Sheffield is asking for help with a hit-and-run accident in Leighton on Saturday, March 17.  This accident took the life of a Leighton man.

“On 3/17/2018 the Quad Cities State Trooper Post responded to a crash at the intersection of AL. 157 and Duncan LN.

Jimmy Oneal Waldrep, 75 and a resident of Leighton, was walking on AL. 157 when he was struck and killed by a driver who left the scene without reporting the crash. Another motorist who stopped to assist Waldrep reported seeing a dark color sedan type vehicle leaving the scene. This vehicle will have damage to the front, most likely to the headlight.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Quad Cities Trooper Post at 256-383-9212 ext. 0.”

Jimmy loved to be around people, he had a collection of pocket knifes he loved to talk about; he loved to attend flea market auctions on Saturday nights with his friend. He lived on Duncan Lane, and White Oak all his life. He always wore a cap and walked the road from his home to White Oak and to Cowboy Church of Colbert County regularly. His Church family loved him and often helped him when he was in dire need of a place to live about a year ago when his house burned, losing everything he had. Some of the church family brought him his breakfast on Sunday morning before Church. He never married, and often said, “He never wanted to, cause women were too much trouble.” He will surely be missed by many people. Driving down the Hwy. today, I looked up and for a second I thought I could see Jimmy walking down the side of the road, than, I realized, he was gone! It was sad, very sad.
