Morris. W. Anderson 83, of Huntsville, AL passed away Sunday, Feb. 4th, following a lengthy illness.  Morris was born in Harvest, AL, and graduated from Athens Bible School.  He began his career at First Federal Savings and Loan which later became First American Federal Savings & Loan.  Morris held various positions but would eventually become Chairman of the Board and CEO of FirstAmFed Corporation until its merger with Colonial Bank in 1993.  He was instrumental in guiding the development of Lakewood, Cedarhurst and Anderson Hills subdivisions.  Morris continued to serve on the Colonial Bank Board of Directors until his retirement in 1994.  He was past president of the Huntsville Madison County Chamber of Commerce, a member of Rotary International and the Alabama Cattlemen’s Association.  Morris was an avid follower of Tennessee Walking horses and was a member of Mayfair Church of Christ.  He was preceded in death by his father, James W. Anderson; mother, Louise Thomas Anderson; and sister, Linda Anderson Denton.

Survivors include his wife, Mattye Anderson; daughters, Rhonda Ivey (Steve), Darlene Walker (Newton), of Nashville; and Denise Carr (Bill) of Florence; brother, James W. Anderson (Dianne) of Foley; grandchildren, Lauren Ivey Walker (Jackson) of Anderson, SC, Ross Ivey, Jennifer Ivey, Megan Carr Stinson (Eric), of Alvaton, KY, Laura Walker Mendoza (Daniel) of Denver, CO, York Walker (Marisa) of Columbia, TN; 9 great-grandchildren; aunt, Ermogene Laxson of East Limestone; brother-in-law, Tyler Denton of Harvest; nephews, Greg Denton (Lisa) and Mark Denton, all of Harvest; and nieces, Amanda Kughn (Jonathan) of Anniston and Tylan Allen (Josh) of Harvest.

Visitation will be from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7th, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home.  The funeral service will follow at 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home chapel with Dr. Gary Bradley officiating.  Burial will be in Huntsville Memory Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Myasthenia Gravis Society, P.O. Box 590105 Birmingham, AL 35259, or to your favorite charity.
