Horace Jeremiah (Jerry) Holland, Jr. of Leighton passed away on Monday, January 22, 2018 at the age of 73. His visitation will begin on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at his residence. His body will lie-in-state on Thursday, January 25, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the Leighton Methodist Church with the funeral service following at 2:00 p.m. Lannie Clottfelter and Greg Woodall will officiate with burial in Holland Cemetery in Hillsboro, Alabama.
He was a member of the Leighton Methodist Church and was a lifelong resident of Leighton, AL. He taught school in Town Creek, Henager and Stevenson, AL. He went from teaching to farming with his brother, the late Noble Holland and retired from farming. Jerry loved spending time with his grandkids Jacob, Hallie, Lillyanna and Kylee Holland. He enjoyed bringing them fruit and they always looked forward to him pulling up with their fruit. He loved hunting and fishing. He was preceded in death by his parents, Horace and Lady Grace Holland; and brothers, Joseph Noble and John Fox Holland.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Rebecca Glover Holland of Leighton; son, Jeremiah Holland and wife Misty of Leighton; stepson, Randal Lard of Rogersville; stepdaughter, Darlene Lard of Rogersville; grandchildren, Jacob, Hallie, Lillyanna and Kylee Holland; and step-grandchildren, Rosie Robertson, Matthew Dotson and Charlee Lard.
Pallbearers will be Johnny Howard, Josh Hacker, Randal Lard, Terry Carter, Tommy Murray and Jacob Murray. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. James Ashmore, Israel Bates, Dan Counts, Thomas Murray, Dennis Pennick, Fred Sizemore, David Sizemore, Gordan Fennell, Ted Holland and Bill Kuhn.
