Mr. Alvin Rivers Jones, 87, died Sunday, November 19, 2017 at Sanctuary Hospice House following an extended illness. He was born November 10, 1930 in Pontotoc County, MS, to Earnest Jones and Ellen Ross Jones. He married the love of his life, Virginia Jeanette Sneed on February 20, 1953. He served his country in the U.S. Army and MSANG, serving in the Korean Conflict, receiving 2 bronze Service Stars and the U.N. Korean Service Ribbon. He worked many years as an auto mechanic for Metro Ford in Tupelo. He was a member of Belden Baptist Church.
His pride and joy were his family, including his 12 grandchildren. He was an avid coon hunter, lover of dogs and horses, and enjoyed everything outdoors.
A celebration of life service with military honors will be at 1 pm, Wednesday, November 22, 2017 in the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Bro. Don Baggett and Bro. Jim Holcomb officiating. Burial will follow at Pontotoc Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 10 AM to service time Wednesday only.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Jeanette Jones; 2 sons, Al Jones (Michelle) and Randy Jones, all of Belden; 3 daughters, Ginger Jones Caldwell of Belden; Janet Perkins of New Orleans, LA, and Donna Hill (Jim) of Belden; 2 brothers, W.C. Jones of Belden and Berdell Jones of Tupelo, and 12 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren and a special caregiver and great friend, Dana Webb. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 sisters, Elise Stacy and Mary Kathern Stanley.
Pallbearers will be Benson Hill, Daniel Perkins. Matthew Perkins, Chase Jones, Raines Marshall, Brayden Jones, Rivers Dawson, Trevor Jones, and Tripp Jones.
