Col. John Livingston O’Shields, 89, former resident of Decatur, passed away Monday, Nov. 13, 2017.
John was an ROTC Cadet and graduated Clemson A&M College in 1953. He was commissioned as an Army Second Lieutenant and assigned to Germany. John served as a Military Reserve Officer for over 30 years. He was employed by Chemstrand and retired from Monsanto. John also worked at Redstone Arsenal and retired as a Dept. of Army Civilian GS-13.
Preceded in death by his wife, Jo Frances Wise O’Shields; and his parents, Nellie Mae and William Thomas O’Shields.
He is survived by two daughters, Joni O’Shields Sims of Orange Beach and Jane O’Shields Hale of Decatur; sister, Martha Jean Patterson of South Carolina; brother, Gary (Cheryl) O’Shields of Florida; three grandsons, Edward Sims, William Hale and David Hale; one granddaughter, Alexandra Hale; two great- grandsons, Parker and Logan Sims; two great-granddaughters, MacKenzie Sims and Greylynn Hale and many other relatives and friends.
Graveside service will be held from Barrancas National Cemetery, 1 Cemetery Road, Pensacola, FL 32508, Monday, Nov. 20, 2017 at 1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Red Cross or their favorite charity.
