Barbara Dawn Gentry Holloway, 63, won the victory Saturday, October 28, 2017 at Sanctuary Hospice House after an extended struggle with Alzheimer’s. A gentle and private soul, Barbara was born on September 14, 1954 in Tupelo to Cortez Gentry and the late Annie Jean Clarady Gentry. She lived all her life in the shadow of her birthplace in the Bankhead Community of Pontotoc County. A housewife and homemaker, Barbara’s great life purpose in life was masterfully taking care of her husband, daughter and enjoying her parents, siblings, nieces and nephews. She loved following in the footprint of her dad and helping tend the animals and critters on the farm. An avid reader, Barbara especially enjoyed reading and studying her Bible. She was a member from childhood of White Zion Presbyterian Church but had attended Immanuel Baptist Church in recent years.
A service celebrating her life will be held at 2 PM Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with her brother in law, Bro. Ray Ware officiating. Private family burial will follow in the Gentry Family Plot at Immanuel Cemetery in the Bankhead Community. Visitation will be from 5 PM-7PM today (Monday) and from Noon-service time on Tuesday, all at Holland-Tupelo Chapel, which is honored to be serving their friends.
Survivors include her husband of 44 years, Bobby Holloway of Pontotoc, to whom she married November 10, 1972; her daughter, Valerie Holloway of Pontotoc. Her father, Cortez Gentry of Pontotoc, now residing in New Albany Health and Rehab Center; 2 sisters, Judy Ware (Ray) and Kathy Whitt all of Toccopola. A brother, George Gentry of Tupelo. Many nieces, nephews and cousins and their families.
