Col. John Robbins, United States Army, Retired, 74, beloved father and husband, died Monday, August 28, 2017 in Germany where he had made his home for many years.. Born December 30th 1942 in Shannon to the late Edwin and Tera Robbins, Col. Robbins was a graduate of Shannon High School and Mississippi State University. John lived a life of service to his country and his God. A devoted family man, Soldier and friend to everyone he met. John, a Vietnam Veteran, served 28 years in the US Army retiring in Europe. He was a defense contractor for 11 years. He ultimately retired to the mountain paradise of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany where he enjoyed a life of hiking, biking and skiing for 15 years prior to his passing. It was in Garmisch where he came to know Christ and was an active member of the Garmisch Community Chapel. He will always be remembered for his compassion towards others, his devotion to duty, Country and God.

John is survived by his brother, Richard Robbins(Chere) of Madison, his son, Robert “Rob” Robbins (Christine), Collins, Ga. and his grandson, Caelan. He is preceded in death by his parents: Edwin & Tera Robbins and his wife: Sandra Riley Robbins.

A Memorial service celebrating his life will be held at the Shannon United Methodist Church, his home Church, in Shannon, MS on Saturday, 7 October, 2017 at 14:00 hours (2 pm)with visitation from 1 pm- service time. A graveside committal, with full military honors, will follow at the Lee Memorial Park Cemetery in Verona, MS.immediately following the memorial service. Rev. Chad Bowen will officiate.
