Naomi Ruth Barton – Obituary

Naomi Ruth Barton, 71, passed away Sunday, August 6, 2017 at her home. She was born in Booneville on December 22, 1945 to Willie Dee and Rosa Edith Helton Smith. On July 19, 1962, she married Jimmie Barton, of Derma, in Oxford. She graduated from Calhoun City High School. Naomi and Jimmie moved from Birmingham, Alabama to retire on Lake Piomingo. She was a member of Auburn Baptist Church with her husband for the past 15 years and was a member of choir. She enjoyed singing, baking, watching hummingbirds and enjoying life with her husband. She dearly loved her family and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who will miss their “Nannie”.

 

Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Jimmie Barton of the Auburn Community; children, Barbara Barton Gillespie (James) of Huntsville, Alabama, Jimmie “Jay” Barton, Jr. (Michelle) of Trussville, Alabama and Rebecca Barton Duffie (Brad) of Guntown; sister, Mary Edith Connelly (Andy) of The Woodlands, Texas; grandchildren, Maegan Sime of Huntsville, Alabama, Bethany Nichols (Daniel) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, David Gillespie of Huntsville, Alabama, Lauren Price (Jesse) of Huntsville, Alabama, Clifford Barton (Kristie) of Birmingham, Alabama, Jackson Clinton of Guntown, Jacob Clinton of Guntown, Emma Duffie of Water Valley and Mason Duffie of Water Valley and great-grandchildren, Skyler Miles, Colton Miles, Christian Sime, Ella Nichols, Norah Nichols and Keiden Barton.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Jacqueline Paige Barton and brother, Viggo Lassen.

 

Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, August 10, 2017 at Auburn Baptist Church with visitation from 11 a.m. until service time. Bro Jimmy Henry will be officiating the service with J. J. Jasper assisting. Graveside services will follow at 4 p.m. at Oak Springs Cemetery in Derma.
