Lisa Ann Hoogstra, age 60, died in Chicago, Illinois on Aug. 2, 2015, after a brief illness. Born in Detroit, Michigan on April 14, 1955, she moved to Florence at age two when her father was transferred to the Ford Motor Company in Sheffield. She attended Bradshaw High School where she won Latin medals and was named valedictorian. She graduated cum laude from Mt. Holyoke College and went to work for the ERIC Clearinghouse on Higher Education in Washington, D.C. At age 30 she entered graduate school at the University of Chicago where she earned a Master’s and Ph.D. in Human Development. From there she went on to work at the University of Chicago, the National Opinion Research Center, Northeastern Illinois University, and the American Institutes for Research. She was the author of numerous reports, journal articles, and book chapters in her fields of human development and educational research.
Lisa was preceded in death by her father, John Hoogstra; her mother, Eulah Hoogstra Reynolds; and her stepfather, Howard Reynolds.
She is survived by her brother, John Hoogstra, of Florence; sister, Jill Hoogstra and husband, Charles Pieplow, of Birmingham; stepbrother, David Reynolds and his wife, Ellen; stepbrother, Icsan (Phil) Reynolds and his wife, Roosmiwati; niece, Michelle Manley; and nephew, Brandon Hoogstra. She is also survived by her two cats, Zoe and Mischief, who have a new home in New Mexico.
