Ouida Dawson Marks – Obituary

Ouida Dawson Marks, 92, passed away on Friday, June 16, 2017. Mrs. Marks was born on May 15, 1925 in Gulfport, Mississippi. She was reared by her Aunt Eulalia Yarborough.

Marks graduated from Riverside High School, where she was an All-County basketball player. She later attended Athens State College and worked with South Central Bell as a switchboard operator.

As a homemaker, she served many roles in her church and community. Mrs. Marks was a member of Central Baptist Church for 53 years.

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Martha C. Dawson and Nell Dawson Lupo; and two brothers, Theron Dawson and John Robert Dawson.

Her memories will be cherished by her beloved husband of 67 years, Herman Marks; her children Herman Marks Jr. (Lynne), Dian Marks Vining (Ed), and Dr. G. Lynn Marks (Cheryl); grandchildren, Emily Vining Walker (Kevin), Victoria Vining, Dana Marks, David Marks, and Karen Beasley (Bob); four great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

A Celebration of Life service will be held tomorrow, June 19, 2017, at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home, with Brother Rob Jackson officiating. Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service. Burial will be at Roselawn Cemetery.

The pallbearers serving are Claude Marks, Ronnie Marks, Gerald Marks, David Lynn Marks, David Wesley Marks, Lester Smith, and John Morris.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the building fund for Central Baptist Church in Decatur, Alabama
