Celebration of life service for Betty Jean Free Garnett, 83 of Decatur will be Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with Brother Jimmy Legg officiating. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Garnett passed away peacefully on Saturday, Oct. 1, 2016 at her residence. She was born Sept. 12, 1933, in Morgan County to Audrey Lois Free and Eva Hampton Free. She worked in the credit department at Sears, then from office manager on to store manager at Roger’s Department Store at the Decatur Mall until its closing. She then went on to work and retire from Stovall Marks Insurance agency where she worked as their receptionist. She was a lifelong member of Ninth Street United Methodist Church. She was a loving mother and grandmother who sacrificed so much to provide for her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, William “Tuell” Garnett; her parents; and her brother, Aubrey Allen Free.
Survivors include her three children, Mike Garnett, Sharon Burnett and Pam Ward (Jeff); and two granddaughters, Kristen Burnett and Ashlyn Ward.
The family would like to thank all the nurses and caregivers at Westminster Assisted Living in Decatur for the love and care they provided for their mom during her time there.
In lieu of flowers, memorials donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Organization.
