Only one life, twill soon be past. Only what’s done for Christ will last.” This quote describes the outlook of an incredible woman. Queen Ola Doss Barnes, 82, died Monday, July 25, 2016, at her home after a brief illness. Her family will receive friends Friday, July 29, 2016 at Morrison Funeral Home, Cherokee, from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm. The funeral service will be held Saturday, July 30, 2016, at the Cherokee United Methodist Church, 225 Church Street, beginning at 1:00 pm. Her body will be placed in the church at 12:00 noon. Rev. Willie B. Jackson and Rev. Curtis Russell will officiate.
Our beautiful, loving mother epitomized elegance and grace. Queen was born in the Stewards Camp Community, south of Cherokee on May 19, 1934 to Earlie and Sarah Kincaid Doss. She grew up surrounded by southern love and charm. On August 7, 1950, Queen married “the love of her life”, Amzie, a young soldier in the U.S. Army. To this union, four children were born; Amzie, Jr., Diana, Tony and Tammie.
Mrs. Barnes was dedicated to her family and worked hard to support them. As an entrepreneur, she owned Barnes Grocery Store, This and That Surplus, Queenie’s Antique Shoppe, and The Turner House Bed and Breakfast. Also, she was a Times Daily newspaper carrier for 13 years. She had several subscribers who became wonderful friends, especially the Rose Trail Community.
Sis. Barnes was a Charter Member of the First Missionary Baptist Church, Cherokee. She served the Lord and church faithfully until her health failed. She was the Church Treasurer, choir member, Program Chairperson and Church Decorator.
When she became unable to attend, church services continued in her home under the leadership of Rev. Curtis Russell and Rev. Larry Goodine.
Queenie was blessed with many talents such as growing beautiful flowers, decorating, and cooking. Most of all, she loved the Lord and thanked Him daily for her blessings. Her positive attitude, passion for living, genuine love and concern for family was an inspiration to all.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Amzie Lee Barnes, Sr., her daughter, Tammie Sabrina Barnes Casey, her parents, Earlie and Sarah Kincaid Doss, her brother, Earlie Doss, Jr., her sisters, Verlina Harris and Mary Frances Sullivan, her granddaughter, LaToria Andrae Long, her paternal grandparents, Crockett and Queen Stokes Doss, her maternal grandparents, Henry Kincaid and Ora Lewis, her favorite uncle and aunt, Bugg and Caroline Doss, her father and mother-in-law, Eddie and Beatrice Goodloe Barnes.

“A precious one from us is gone,
A voice we loved is still
A place is vacant in our home,
That never can be filled.”
